The 2019 Council Awards

New this year, United Fresh will honor five individuals for their outstanding work in sharing their expertise in different areas serving our produce industry. The honorees will be recognized on Tuesday, June 11 from the Main Stage during the trade show.

Awards will be presented in areas represented by United Fresh Expert Advisory Councils.

 

2019 Honorees:

Finance & Business Management:

Jason Pounds, Treasurer/Secretary, Hardie’s Fresh foods

Jason is a partner at Hardie’s Fresh Foods in Texas where he serves as Corporate Treasurer and Secretary. His work in the fresh produce industry began in 1993 and he has been in or around the industry for over 20 years. Jason prides himself on leading the successful bid for Hardie’s Fresh Foods largest contract with the military. In his day-to-day, he focuses on corporate governance, legal issues, mergers and acquisitions and family estate planning. Jason is currently working on the existing estate plan structure to ensure success while the business transitions to the next generation. He graduated with a liberal arts degree from Southern Methodist University.

 

Food Safety & Technology:

Natalie Dyenson, Vice President, Food Safety & Quality, Dole Food Groups

Based at the Dole Nutrition Institute Campus in Kannapolis, NC, Natalie has responsibility for food safety and quality programs globally. Before joining Dole, she spent eight years at Walmart, Inc., most recently leading food safety across 6,500 retail stores, 48 company owned manufacturing facilities and 220 fresh distribution centers in 26 countries for Walmart’s international division. Prior to Walmart, she spent eight years with Walt Disney Parks and Resorts, where she held various roles in food safety and public health supporting Walt Disney World, Disney Regional Entertainment, Disney Cruise Line and the Parks and Resorts business globally. Natalie holds a B.S. in Microbiology from the University of Iowa and a M.P.H. in Infectious Disease Epidemiology and Biostatistics from the University of South Florida.

 

Government Relations:

Charles Wingard, Director of Field Operations, Walter P. Rawl & Sons, Inc.

Charles is one of nine family members actively involved in day-to-day operations at Walter P. Rawl & Sons, Inc. located in Pelion, SC where he began working upon his commencement from Clemson University in 1987 where he earned a degree in Agricultural Economics. His primary duties include the oversight of vegetable production on approximately 4,000 acres of farmland in South Carolina, Florida, and Mississippi. He and his family are active in many groups that promote issues in the agricultural and produce industries such as United Fresh Produce Association, Farm Bureau, Harvest Hope Food Bank, South Carolina Dept. of Agriculture, FFA, Five-A-Day, and many more.

 

Produce Marketing & Merchandising:

Julie DeWolf, Director of Retail Marketing, Sunkist Growers, Inc.

Julie joined Sunkist Growers, Inc. in 2005. She came into produce with a wealth of experience in a variety of industries including video games, packaged goods and entertainment. She is a former CPA who started her career in public accounting and corporate finance. In her current role, Julie and her team are responsible for developing the global retail marketing strategy and executing all programs at grocery retailers worldwide. Additionally, under her guidance, the department manages the major corporate trade shows and the development of all citrus packaging. She earned her degree from UCLA in Economics/Business and has actively volunteered on several industry committees during her tenure with Sunkist.

 

Supply Chain Logistics:

Kenny Lund,Vice President, Support Operations, ALC Logistics

Kenny graduated from Loyola Marymount University with a degree in Business Administration and managed the refrigerated transportation division of ALC Logistics in LA for eight years, before transitioning to the Information & Technology Department as manager in 1997; becoming the Vice President of the department in 2002. He was promoted to Vice President - Support Operations which includes: Information and Technology, Carrier Resources and Marketing departments in 2005. In 2014, Kenny, in the position of VP of ALC Logistics, began working with that division of ALC to sell their software solution, a Transportation Management System (TMS) to companies that manage refrigerated and dry transportation. At the start of 2019, Kenny Lund along with the ALC executive team was elevated in title to Executive Vice President.
